A couple of posts ago, I told you about the controversies and lawsuits with the National Association of Realtors at its core. And I mentioned there was a group looking to bypass that nationwide organization altogether. That, I told you, would bring huge changes to the industry, if it is successful.
It’s now official. And it’s named the AREA - American Real Estate Association.
This may not be the organization that finally wrests control of an entire industry from one group, but it could. And their vision is certainly different.
I am still reading the article, and getting a handle on the full scope of what they’re proposing. But if you want to see for yourself, here is a link to the story.
Once I’ve had some time to think this over, and consider what changes might result that aren’t immediately obvious, I’ll have more to say.
But the first thing to know is that the New York Times has taken the lead in pursuing tips about problems with the National Association of Realtors. It’s been their story. And now they’ve got a story to describe an alternative to that group.
My journalist’s antennae go up when that happens. But perhaps it was just a case of a newspaper getting a solid lead, following up, and enabling a change that was needed.
Time will tell, won’t it?
