There’s a lot of energy and enthusiasm around real estate in the Catskills, but it doesn’t appear there’s a lot of focus.
That’s a problem.
I have been that homebuyer myself, once or twice — not at all sure what exactly I wanted but convinced I’d know it when I found it. What generally happens is just about the time you (and your real estate agent) are ready to drop to the ground with exhaustion, you get realistic, and you discover the place that works, even if it’s not the perfect place. And then you move in and make it as perfect for as you can. Perfect enough.
In a seller’s market, the frustration level grows because you become convinced that the one that got away (which was sold before you got to see it) was probably the only right one for you.
Try this: next time you’re quiet and relaxed, maybe as you’re going to sleep or if you’re lying in bed in the morning, picture where you want to be. What setting is the one you really want? What makes sense for your life now and in the near future?
Then think about the general era and style of house that appeals most to you. And finally, picture the rooms you need, the things that you can’t compromise on.
Get that picture in your head. Then, when you’re looking online, you’ll have a filter that helps you see the houses that work for what you need, instead of just an overwhelming stream of possibilities.
Once you’re able to look at a house in person, visualize your life there. Imagine it’s yours. Try it on, see how it fits.
You may be surprised to discover which place turns out to be the best fit for you.
The weekend’s coming - give it a try.
See you next week!
